Didcot Railway Centre is operated by the Great Western Society whose volunteer members restore and operate the trains and other exhibits.
Members can help to keep alive part of the GWR, by volunteering; perhaps joining one of our restoration teams, or helping to run our Steamdays and events by becoming a Station Master, Shunter, or Guard, or even ultimately a Driver. We also need volunteers to help with a variety of office tasks at Didcot, some of which is midweek work which may appeal to retired members. We also have a Young Volunteers group
However there is no obligation to take an active role; one of the benefits of membership is free admission to most events at Didcot Railway Centre and many members join for the opportunities this gives.
Members receive the quarterly Great Western Echo magazine with articles on Society activities and the GWR. Local Groups organise meetings and events in the Bristol, North West (Warrington), Oxford, South West (Torbay), Swindon and Taunton areas.
The Great Western Society has formed a main line supporters club 'GWS Mainline Steam' for members who wish to help to offset the high costs of operating locomotives on the main line. See www.gwsmainline.org for more details.
To join print out and fill in the Membership form and post it off today with your membership cheque or credit card details. Or, buy a membership next time you visit the Centre.
