Railway Experience Days

A chance of a lifetime to realise a childhood ambition and drive a steam engine. Ideal for a birthday treat, a special anniversary, corporate hospitality or pure self indulgence.

Relive the golden age of the Great Western Railway at Didcot Railway Centre where the original GWR engine shed is home to a fine collection of lovingly restored locomotives, looked after by the members of the Great Western Society.

The Day consists of:

Introduction and safety talk
Guided tour of the Centre, including the workshops and signalboxes, with an experienced guide
2.5 hours with the steam train, driving and firing the locomotive and being guard of the train
Two course lunch in the restaurant
Gift pack of information about Didcot Railway Centre and a year's membership of the Great Western Society
Group Photograph of your visit

The day commences at 8am with coffee and breakfast rolls and concludes at 4pm with the presentation of a Certificate of your day's experience.

On Railway Experience Days we use ‘Mogul’ 2-6-0 No. 5322. On Tank Engine Experience days we use Great Western Pannier Tank No. 3650 or No. 3738.

The Inclusive Cost

Railway Experience Days, with No. 5322: £295

Tank Engine Experience Days: £200

Guest Engine Experience Days: £350

Participants are welcome to bring up to 2 guests (who must be booked in advance) who can accompany you for the tour and enjoy the day for £25 each including lunch. This is not suitable for young children.
To book please complete the attached form. If you have a Visa or MasterCard you can make a reservation by telephoning Didcot (01235) 817200 (Mondays to Saturdays 9am to 5pm). Railway Experience Days operate with a minimum of six participants; confirmation will be made when the minimum has been reached, or your alternative offered.
