A Day at Didcot

A Day at Didcot

You can visit Didcot Railway Centre on one of our advertised Running Days, and spend the day with one of our Guides who will take you round the Centre and show you behind the scenes, including some time riding on the footplate of the steam engines.

You will receive a year's membership of the Great Western Society and a souvenir of your visit.

A Day at Didcot is available on Running Days listed in our programme (except some of the special events) but numbers are limited and early booking essential.

The cost inclusive of lunch is £125. You can bring up to two friends or family can accompany you for the tour and enjoy the day for £25 each including lunch.

Don’t forget: Being around railway locomotives is not clean, so wear clothes to suit the location! Participants must be over 18 and reasonably fit and able bodied to ride on the footplate.

Numbers are strictly limited so please book early. Print out a booking form and send it to the Centre with your cheque or credit card details or if you have a credit card you may telephone Didcot (01235) 817200.

Stay at the Malmaison Reading and make a weekend of it!

The railway themed Malmaison Reading, built in 1844 in the Italianate style, was the Great Western Railway Hotel until a fire in the 1960s.  It was restored to its glamorous best by Malmaison Group and re-opened in 2007.

Stay at Malmaison Reading on Thursday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday nights for £99 per night bed and breakfast based on two people sharing a double room (subject to availability at the time of booking).  Catch the train to Didcot Parkway Station and get £2 off admission to Didcot Railway Centre (excluding special events) or book a Day at Didcot in advance and your guest goes free. You can book the hotel via the Malmaison Hotels website putting the code DCRC900 into the ‘Corporate’ code box when booking, or by telephoning 084469 30660 and mentioning Didcot.
